Chiseled Face – Guy Noir – Shaving Soap
Guy Noir - private eye. A man still searching for the answers to life's most persistent questions.
NPR was a large part of my childhood, and one of my favorite memories is listening to prairie home companion and the adventures of Guy Noir. I have a feeling that this is the scent he would wear.
Top Notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Orange
Mid Notes: Cognac, Nutmeg, Crushed Tobacco Leaves
Base Notes: White Woods
4oz of tallow based soap in large plastic tub. Plenty of room to load your brush without losing too much lather over the sides.
Ingredients: Stearic Acid, Aloe Vera Juice, Potassium Hydroxide, Beef Tallow, Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Glycerin, Fragrance, Mango Butter, Avocado Oil, Silk Powder
Honestly I bought this just because I am huge Garrison Keeler fan, and wanted to give the Chiseled face tallow soaps a try. The scent is pure date night excellence. Vanilla, leather, smoke and mystery. Strong enough to make you wonder about bourbon in a drawer next to an oiled colt revolver under a newspaper. The soap base performs very well. Nice lather with excellent cushion and glide. Post shave is second to none.
I’ve used a variety of Chiseled Face products over the years and have always been very satisfied. Ghost Town Barber is a favorite, and I’ve also used Summer Storm, Trade Winds, Bay Rum, Midnight Stag, and most recently Guy Noir. I’m really enjoying Guy Noir. It lathers up well and produces a nice slick surface and helps me avoid razor burn (which I often get with gel shaving cream). The scent itself reminds me of a cross between Sherlock and Midnight Stag—the tobacco scent (minus the pepper) of Sherlock, and a little of the leather scent of Midnight Stag and Ghost Town Barber.
I wasn't sure what to expect out of this soap as the Top/Middle/Base note layout is unusual, but I have to tell you the combination is OUTSTANDING!!!! My only disappointment is that it doesn't have a Aftershave to complement the soap (which I am hoping it will come sooner than later), as I am using a Unscented AF so that I don't loose the scent of this soap. Even as I take in the scent of this soap as I write this review it like walking into a High-class tobacco humidor built out of cedar, sipping a glass of top-shelf cognac. Again, OUTSTANDING soap to the already arson of soaps by CFSoaps.
